Raksha Bandhan (रक्षाबंधन, the bond of Protection), or Rakhi (राखी), is a Hindu and Sikh festival primarily observed in North India, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. The central ceremony involves the tying of a rakhi (scared thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist. This symbolizes the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong bond to protect her. The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar.

Ashoka (अशोक)
अशोक महान का पूरा नाम अशोक मौर्य था अशोक का राज्यकाल लगभग २७२-२३२ ईसा पूर्व रहा। सिद्धार्थ गौतम की मानवतावादी शिक्षायो से प्रभावित होकर अशोक जीवन के उत्तरार्ध में बौद्ध हो गये और उन्ही की स्मृति मे उन्होने एक स्तम्भ खड़ा कर दिया जो आज भी नेपाल में उनके जन्मस्थल - लुम्बिनी मे मायादेवी मन्दिर के पास अशोक स्तम्भ के रुप मे देखा जा सकता है। अशोक ने बौद्ध धर्म का प्रचार भारत के अलावा श्रीलंका, अफगानिस्तान ,यूनान ,मिश्र में भी करवाया । अशोक काल में उकेरा गया प्रतीतात्मक चिह्न, जिसे हम 'अशोक चिह्न' के नाम से भी जानते हैं, आज भारत का राष्ट्रीय चिह्न है। बौद्ध धर्म के इतिहास में गौतम बुद्ध के पश्चात् अशोक का ही स्थान आता है।
