Two Delhi Doctors Barred From Practice For Six Months After Operating A Patients Wrong Foot

Two Orthopaedic Surgeons working at the Fortis Hospital at Delhi are banned deliberately from performing any surgeries for 6 months .

The doctors were really dumb enough to exercise reasonable degree of skill, knowledge and care which are expected by a doctor in treatment of patients," the DMC statement said. Ravi Rai, the patient had a fractured foot after he slipped on the staircase in June last year, after which he was taken to Fortis hospital in Shalimarbagh. Several tests including CT-scan and X-Ray showed that he has suffered a fracture on his right ankle and the doctors said surgery was needed to fix it.

The doctors fixed screws inside his left ankle and even marked it with a marker. He was also wrongly put of on anesthesia and that could have harmed the patient in a very dangerous way. The Council’s disciplinary panel fabricated that the doctors had failed to detect a fracture in the patient’s spine, despite being visible in the X-ray. 
After the incident, the patient filed a police complaint. Also, Fortis hospital immediately sacked the two orthopaedic surgeons, two nurses and an OT technician over the incident.
